Being a part of our school community presents opportunities for various experiences throughout your child's academic journey. New classes, new faces, exciting new curriculums and materials, and of course a stimulating encouraging school culture will all be a part of the experience.
We approach everyday with an opportunity to learn, build character and develop work ethics to prepare a new generation of leaders, thinkers and contributors to a greater society.
Mission
Public School 159 strives to provide all our children with equitable social emotional and academic learning experiences and supports to ensure that they become life-long learns with a strong academic foundation and the necessary critical thinking skills to meet the demands of our ever changing global society.
Vision
All P.S.159 stakeholders work collaboratively to provide all students rigorous, academic and social emotional instruction, high-quality experiences, and equitable resources that are meaningful and relevant.
By educating, supporting, and celebrating each child's individual strengths and talents, we will be ensuring that our children will have opportunities to excel in all content areas and ultimately be prepared to confidently step into the role of tomorrow’s leaders.
Equity Statement
The PS 159 faculty ensures that all students receive equitable resources, services, and experiences.
We will recognize and attend to the diverse needs, strengths, and challenges of all students both in person and remotely. We pledge to provide high-quality differentiated instruction that will give students, especially English Language Learners and Students with Disabilities, the opportunities to excel in all areas.
Instructional Focus
To build teacher capacity in developing students' vocabulary acquisition through the use of explicit teaching practices to ensure that all learners have the necessary skills to excel in all content areas.
School Hours
P.S. 159 school hours are from 8:20 a.m. - 2:40 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Tuesday Parent/Teacher Conferences (virtual) are from 2:45 p.m. to 3:55 p.m. by appointment. Please schedule with your child's teacher to reserve your meeting time.
We also have several parent engagement nights throughout the year so please be sure to check the school calendar for information.
School Dress Code
We continue to have a Uniform Policy and expect our students to wear their uniform daily. Uniforms can be purchased in our merchandise store in the school building.
